An Ingenious World is the first major show in the UK of veteran artist Siah Armajani (b.1939 Iran). Opening September 18th the exhibition at Parasol Unit Foundation surveys his work from early pieces made on paper in Iran in the late 1950s, to later works including his most recent structure, the Alfred Whitehead Reading Room, 2013, set outside the gallery where books will be on display to the public. Armajani’s 50 years or more of commissions include bridges, reading rooms and poetry gardens.
As an extension of the exhibition we have invited Iranians of a similar age to Armajani to contribute recitations in Persian to a poetry evening, a Shab e Shehr, at the gallery on September 24th. As well as poetry, we we have lined up light Iranian food and music. Attending to recite will be veteran poet Bahman Forsi (b.1933), the published poet Afshin Babazadeh and Manouchehr Hosseinpour. A section at the end of the evening will be for the audience to contribute their own or favourite poems also.
