A Tribute Concert to the Female Vocalists of Iran

18_nava_artsA concert by renowned Iranian composer Majid Derakhshani, the Mah Ensemble and Mahdieh Mohammadkhani is coming to London’s Southbank Centre.

Majid Derakhshani (b.1957 Sangesar, Iran) is a composer and tar (lute) player known the world over for his innovative approach to traditional Persian music. Here he leads the Mah Ensemble (pictured here with Derakhshani) in a collaboration with the exceptional female vocalist Mahdieh Mohammadkhani in a special concert tribute to all the female vocalists in Persian music, past and present and future. What’s striking about the female voice in Middle Eastern classical music is the range which even embraces contralto at times.
