New Podcasts – Magic Of Persia Contemporary Art Prize

Today: Selected interviews with artists and the selection panel from the Magic of Persia Contemporary Art Prize event in London, October 2015. Interviews with Magic of Persia director Shirley Elghanian, 2015 judges Sussan Babaie (Courtauld), Dr Shiva Balaghi and snippets from the auction itself held by Sotheby’s Roxanne Zand.

The Magic of Persia Contemporary Art Prize (MOP CAP) is a worldwide search for the next generation of contemporary Iranian visual artists who have the potential to make a significant impact in their field. The goal of the prize is to provide an opportunity for emerging artists to gain international exposure, and to engage in artistic experimentation and cultural exchange. Through its archival material, including an online artist database and printed publications, MOP CAP aims to provide an educational interchange and contribute to the development of Iranian art and culture.

We hear from Shirley Elghanian founder and director of Magic of Persia, a charity that awards a major Contemporary Art Prize each year to an emerging Iranian artist from any country. There ceremony took place in Edge of Arabia projects, London on 3rd October 2015. Featuring an interview with this year’s MOPCAP nominee Hani Najm with Bijan Moosavi, and a track called Barf (Snow) by Masoud Irani, selected for the evening’s events by Fari Bradley show curated sound and visuals for the awards ceremony.

The last 8 finalists for the arts prize were selected from the 20 semi-finalists in a private exhibition in Dubai, after the 280 applications had been sorted through, they were Jananne Al-Ani, Dr. Sussan BabaieMatthew Collings, and Professor Andrew Patrizio.
