Six Pillars Broadcast – El Marsa Gallery, Tunis / Dubai and Thameur Mejri.

After exhibiting his work at the 1:54 African Contemporary Art Fair, London 2017, the Dubai-based El Marsa Gallery present a solo show of canvas, film and paper works by young Tunisian artist Thameur Mejri

The solo exhibition Heretic Spaces, is held at Elmarsa Gallery, Dubai, UAE, however in this interview the director Lili Ben Saleh, tells how they found his work in a small local show in the city of Tunis, where the first space of El Marsa still exists. Themes such as US culture, media and politics in Tunisia surface in these hectic, cross disciplinary works.  Mejri’s solo exhibitions include “Male (God) scarecrow” (2010) at Artyshow gallery in La Marsa, and “Before You Split the Ground” (2017) at Jack Bell Gallery in London. Produced in collaboration with his brother film director Kays Mejri, his video piece ”The Plague” won the Prize for the best experimental short film in 2007 at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival (NYIIFVF).

Also discussed, how the international presence of the gallery in the Middle East and globally at art fairs might feed back to their shows in Tunisia, for the local arts scene.

Music by Rafael Riqueni, Ibrahim, Alexander Ragazanov and Leonid Sendersky, Whispers of the Dragon and Bobby Mcferrin.
