Omid has been a guest on Six Pillars since the days of Myspace, (around 2006) and his career in USA has flourished since we first were in touch. Based in California, Omid began creating heavily sampled hip hop and other forms of electronic music for film and music release after a bachelor in recording arts from Loyola Marymount University, California.
His solo debut album, Distant Drummer, was released on Beneath the Surface in 2002. In 2003, he released the album, Monolith, on Mush Records. It featured contributions from the likes of Abstract Rude, 2Mex, Buck 65, Luckyiam, Aceyalone, Murs, and Slug.
His recognisable style is experimental and inspiring, and, happily, not always danceable. We had to listen to a lot of unremarkable music to find Omid on Myspace back then!
In 2007, he released the instrumental album, Afterwords 3, on Alpha Pup Records.
He is the music supervisor of This Is the Life, a documentary film which chronicles the Good Life Cafe.
One of his more recent releases opens this week’s mix; Modern Persian Speech Sounds.
